Vietnam Golf Team’s Performance At SEA Games 29

Let’s look back about vietnam golf team’s performance at sea games 29, which was over more than a month. Did Vietnam golf team look up to the golf fans’ expectations?

At this single player game, male players performed better than female ones. On the first day of the game, player Dat Do Le Gia performed quite well, but he did not maintain his performance on the second day, but his team player Toan Nguyen Phuong did it much better. He became the first Vietnam golf player participating SEA Games as well as other international games and gained such record thanks to the total score of 68 (3 scores under the par). His secret is the way he used the best golf rangefinder in the tournament. It help him take the advantages. He set 3 strokes of birdie and 1 stroke of eagle at the hole 12th, and finally got 68 strokes per the par of 72. Due to this, he set the new record for Vietnam golf among other SEA Games. In the meanwhile, players Quan Truong Chi and Dung Hung Nguyen got +10 and +23 respectively. In general, Vietnam male golf players did perform pretty well compared to previous years when taking part in SEA Games in single matches. However, none of them stood in the top of ranking which belonged to Thailand players. Thailand teams gained two gold medals, one silver medal and one brown medal in single matches. Player Dat Do Le Gia who had the best performance among Vietnam team stood at the number 17 per 40. Quan Truong Chi, Toan Nguyen Phuong, Dung Nguyen Hung stood number 26, 28, 39 per 40 respectively.
At the same time, Vietnam female golfers did not perform as well as male golfers. Player My Nguyen Thao stood number 17 per 21 with the score of 228 strokes. Next was Hanako Kawasaki, standing at 18 per 21 and player Minh Doan Xuan Khue stood at the last position of the ranking list. While Vietnam female golfers did not gain much achievements, Thailan golf players performed really excellently and impressively when they gained the position of both number one and number 2. Atthaya Thitikul, stood No.1, hit 136 strokes (-6) and her teammate, Thitapa Pakdeesetiakul stood No.2
We can see that even performance this year was better than the previous years, and some records were set. However, our players still did not stand at high positions which belonged to Thailand, Philippine and Singapore players. Also, in team plays, Vietnam did not have good performance. Some people argue that Vietnam players are too young and they are in lack of real experience as well as skills. Other think that the rival teams are too strong such as Thailand and Singapore where golf’s development is much further than Vietnam’s. Whatever the reasons are, in my opinion, this is time for Vietnam’s golf to look back, find its drawbacks and then improve them. It is true that it is not easy when golf is just a new game in Vietnam, but it has developed in a long time in other countries. However, if we can do that, prepare more carefully for the next SEA Games and other international matches, we can gain more achievements.
